At Chemist Direct we recognise the importance of maintaining healthy feet so this week we are going to give you some top tips for fighting against three of the most common conditions, athlete’s foot, bromodosis and blisters.
Athlete’s Foot aka Tinea Pedi is a very common condition, which is caused by a fungal infection that affects the skin on the feet.
It is usually mild and often affects the skin between the toes, often causing it to be red, flaky and itchy.
Just about anyone can develop athletes foot, however it is more common in men and children, although understandable due it’s name it is also very common among athletes. This is because the infection is commonly spread in places such as communal showers and changing rooms.
Most people can treat athlete’s foot at home because it usually responds quickly to treatment.
Bromodosis aka smelly feet occurs because we have more sweat glands in our feet than in any other part of the body. By wearing shoes and socks, we restrict the sweat from out feet from evaporating or being absorbed. This attracts bacteria causing sweat to smell, thus causing bromodosis or as it is more commonly known smelly feet.
Bromodosis can be controlled and treated by taking a number of steps to reduce bacteria such as washing your feet and changing your socks daily, remove dead skin from the soles of your feet and use antifungal foot spay.
A blister is a small pocket of fluid in the upper layers of the skin. Blisters are often filled with a serum, a clear liquid which is part of the blood that remains after the red blood cells and clotting agent have been removed.
They are often caused by friction to the skin, contact with chemicals, medical conditions such as chicken pox or from sunburn or scalds.
Blisters generally heal naturally and do not require medical attention. They heal as new skin grows beneath the blister, and your body slowly begins to reabsorb the fluid in the blister, causing the skin on top to dry and peel off.
