Chen Language Services, Ms. Mary Chen – Elected as a New Director of the Carolina Association of Translators & Interpreters (CATI)

Ms. Mary Chen of Chen Language Services was elected as a new director of the Carolina Association of Translators & Interpreters (CATI) for 2 consecutive years starting January 2012. CATI is the local chapter of the American Translators Association (www.atanet.org). While this association generally represents the territory of North and South Carolina, their members hail from across the country and Canada as well. CATI is a non-profit organization governed by a board of directors. The Association is charted to promote the recognition of translating and interpreting as professions and to defend and support the interests and concerns of professional translators and interpreters; to encourage high-quality service and ethical business practice among members; to disseminate information to the public about translating and interpreting; to facilitate mutual assistance among translators and interpreters and to provide a medium for collaboration with persons in allied professions.

Mary Chen will be a great asset as a director to CATI. She has been providing language services to businesses and individuals for over 20 years, both in China as well as in the United States. Ms. Chen possesses an extensive understanding of Asian cultures necessary for accurate interpretation. She established her own company, Chen Language Services, LLC in 2008 to meet the demand for quality Asian language services in this area. Mary has a BA in English from China and an MS in Child Development from UNCG. Besides her business, she is actively involved in several ethnic organizations, including NAAAP (National Association of Asian American Professionals) and NCCBA (North Carolina Chinese Business Association). She is very passionate about helping the Asian American community to live a prosperous life in this country.
