FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Chicago, Illinois, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) March 9, 2011 -- "On behalf of the Martinez Family and our New 10th Campaign Committee we would like to express our heart felt thankfulness and gratitude to all of our volunteers, supporters, funders and voters during the 2010/2011 10th Ward Aldermanic Campaign.

The Martinez Campaign over the last 6 months has afforded me and my family a tremendous opportunity to meet thousands of people across the ward spanning the following neighborhoods: East Side, Hegewisch, South Chicago, South Deering, Bush, Jeffery Manor & Vet's Park/Slag Valley. By going door to door, attending community meetings and listening to the families & residents of the 10th Ward, I have gained a greater appreciation for the needs of the families, children and future of the 10th Ward.

Though our campaign fell short, we were able to garner nearly 4,000 votes and 40% of the vote. This was accomplished in a short six month time span and limited budget by a dedicated group of nearly 300 volunteers. In spite of the election day results, the issues of the 10th Ward remain the same: Responsible/viable economic development, investment and job creation, the hiring of additonal police officers to reduce crime and create safer neighborhoods, improving & increasing educational opportunities/alleviating overcrowding of schools for our youth & improving the delivery of city services. On a citywide level the issues of fiscal responsibility, transparency and reform remain as well.

One of the big ideological differences between the incumbent and our New 10th Ward campaign is the vision and direction for economic development in the 10th Ward. The "Old 10th Ward" still views the 10th Ward as a Heavy Industrial/polluting community such as supporting existing firms such as AgriFine and bringing in the AOS Liquid Asphalt Facility and the proposed Leucadia Coal Gasification Plant.

Our New 10th Ward supports economic development, job creation and investment that not only creates jobs, but also focuses on the immediate benefits to the health, welfare and environment of the entire 10th Ward community. We support initiatives such as the "Blue Green Alliance" that call for investments in clean energy sources as a strategy to create jobs, reduce global emissions and moves America toward energy independence. We also believe in fiscal responsibility and environmental stewardship. Our New 10th Ward Committee helped to organize an Environmental Town Hall in January to educate and inform the community of the Proposed Leucadia Coal Gasification Plant detailed in Illinois Senate Bill 3388 and urged Governor Quinn to Veto this legislation.

Focusing on the tremendous support and momentum built through the New 10th Ward Aldermanic Campaign, this organization will now transition into the "New 10th Ward Community Service Organization" which will focus on making positive investments in the 10th Ward community as well as holding all of our public officials accountable. Meetings of our organization will continue on Tuesday's @ 7:30 pm. For more information please call: 773-544-4682.

The New 10th Ward Aldermanic Campaign website: www.martinez10.com will remain up for some time as we are still accepting contributions to retire our remaining campaign debt. In addition, the New 10th Ward Aldermanic Committee will be hosting a fundraiser on Saturday April 2, 2011. For more information please call: 708-704-3950.
