Last week it was reported by the Chicago Tribune and the local ABC affiliate in Chicago that the Foster Bank headquarters and branch on Kedzie will be closed for several months. According to the bank’s website the closure is due to renovations, but the media outlets specifically report mold as the reason for the temporary closure.
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation reportedly issued a proclamation under the Banking Emergencies Act which has authorized the temporary emergency closure. Other branches of the bank in the Chicago area remain open for business.
Also this month it was reported that residents of a Galesburg, Illinois nursing home were living with mold in 12 of the residents’ rooms according to the Illinois Department of Health. Many of the elderly residents had been suffering respiratory problems leading up to the mold discovery by the state.
“These latest news stories involving mold highlight the fact that mold problems can occur anywhere,” reported Ed Chambers, the President of EC2, Inc. (ec2), an Illinois based environmental consulting firm. “Mold will grow anywhere there is significant moisture in an indoor environment. Homes, schools, hospitals and even financial institutions can all have IAQ problems from mold growth.”
