http://www.brynncapella.com Tree House is a humane organization that promotes the inherent value of every animal and strives to educate the public about proper and responsible animal care, with a focus on the care and placement of stray cats with special physical and emotional needs. The cageless Illinois shelter has a no kill policy, and a commitment to spaying and neutering its animals to stem the tide of unwanted pets.
However the benefits of spaying and neutering go beyond controlling the pet population, as Capella knows all too well. It was not too long ago that she found out the hard way how important it is to spay or neuter your pet. In 2008, Brynn’s otherwise healthy cat, Cher, was diagnosed with breast cancer and passed away two weeks later. In her search for answers, the link she discovered astounded her.
Most people are aware that spaying or neutering your pet helps overpopulation, but what they don’t know is that it helps to prevent breast cancer in both dogs and cats. She wondered if the connection could be that simple.
It is. According to cat specialist Dr. Arnold Plotnick, an animal that is spayed before their first heat decreases her risk of breast cancer by 91% -- an astounding fact that often goes unnoticed. Because this disease is easily prevented and treatable, Brynn wanted to make sure other pet owners didn’t suffer the same fate.
When Capella contacted Tree House, they were more than happy to be a part of her mission. “Growing up with cats my entire life, I was so surprised to hear there was a link. I felt completely blindsided because if I had been aware, I could have done something,” said Capella. So now she is, by making others aware.
Brynn Capella's donation to the Tree House Humane Society is well timed, as February is spay and neuter month. So for the last two weeks in February, she will be holding a special promotion to raise awareness about Tree House’s meaningful work, and also bring to light the importance of spaying and neutering your animal. From Feb 15th through Feb 29th, 50% of the proceeds from online sales (http://www.brynncapella.com ) will be donated to the cause.
Tree House has spent the last four decades caring for Chicago area cats, and a large part of that care involves spaying and neutering. Help to keep Chicago’s animals safe, and get a beautiful handbag in the process.
