Life can be difficult for a child living with a brain injury. However, the pediatric services offered at FINR can give children with brain injuries the ability to live a normal life.
Wauchula, FL, August 11, 2011—For parents of children with brain injuries, it can often seem as though they have nowhere to turn. Raising a child with a brain injury is usually stressful and confusing, and the concerns of children with brain injuries are very different from those of adults. However, there is help. The Florida Institute for Neurologic Rehabilitation offers a dedicated pediatric brain injury rehabilitation program for children and teenagers.
The pediatric professionals at FINR incorporate the latest technical knowledge about brain injury rehabilitation with in-depth experience with childhood growth and development stages. The appropriate treatment for a 4 year old differs from the appropriate treatment for a 13 year old—and neither of them should be treated like an adult.
One of the most important differences between a child and an adult, in terms of brain injury rehabilitation, is the presence of the parents. A parent knows his or her child better than anyone else does. FINR develops working relationships with parents and use the beliefs and strengths of the family as a tool within treatment. The family plays an important role in brain injury rehabilitation, and FINR’s pediatric services program acknowledges this.
Finally, FINR knows that education is one of the most important gifts a child can be given. Every child in the Pediatric Rehabilitation and Education Program has an individualized education plan, or IEP, that outlines short-term objectives and long-term goals to focus on the student’s individual needs, whether behavioral, educational, emotional or physical. Since FINR is accredited by the National Council for Private School Accreditation, the student’s credits will transfer to the student’s home district after discharge.
