Chiropractics Helps Children With Chronic Health Issues

April 14, 2011

Chiropractor has success treating using chiropractic techniques to treat problems like bed wetting and ear infections.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) April 14, 2011 -- Chronic childhood problems are being successfully treated by a local chiropractor specializing in family chiropractic and wellness.

Dr. James Whillans, of Lifeworks Family Chiropractic, says childhood health problems including ear infections and bedwetting can often be rectified through gentle chiropractic adjustments that restore normal nerve function.

“It’s not at all unusual for a child who has chronic ear infections or who wets the bed to show improvement as a result of chiropractic adjustments,” says Dr. Whillans, who lives in West Kelowna. “In the case of bedwetting, adjustments normalize the nerve system so the bladder is able to communicate with the brain and tell it when it’s full.”

Whillans says there are many studies in the scientific literature that suggest chiropractic can help with many childhood health problems including bed wetting and ear infections.

April* brought her four-year-old son Sam and her seven-year-old daughter Cadence to Lifeworks for a wellness check up and was surprised, but delighted, by the results.

“We didn’t bring them in for any specific problems but when we mentioned Sam’s bedwetting and Cadence’s ear infections Dr. Whillans said he wasn’t surprised,” April said. “We started treatment, fingers crossed, and it was literally instantaneous in Sam’s case. We’d been changing his entire bed three or four times a week, washing everything, and he instantaneously stopped. It was shocking.”

Cadence’s ear infections disappeared after several adjustments but reoccurred a few months later when new stress on her nerves prevented fluid from draining.

“Normally I’d take her to the doctor for antibiotics but I decided to give chiropractic a chance and they fit her in right away,” April said. “She was crying all the way there and on the way home she was teaching me a song she learned at school.”

Whillans said not all ear infections respond to chiropractic care. In Cadence’s case, adjusting the neck and reducing interference to her spine (a process known as subluxation) unblocked fluid in her ear and allowed it to drain properly.

“The intent of a chiropractic adjustment is to normalize the nerve system so the body functions properly and heals the way it was designed to,” Whillans says. “Chiropractics doesn’t treat bedwetting or ear infections specifically. Chiropractic adjustments ensure our nerve system is functioning optimally so we can be our best.”

Lifeworks is a family-oriented practice run by Dr. James and his wife and partner Dr. Nicole Barbary. Their practice operates from a wellness foundation that recognizes the body as being fully capable of running itself and of healing if there is no interference to the body. Chiropractic specifically removes interference to the nerve system.
