Research from the organizers of One Day Without Shoes have found that large numbers of kids around the world don't own any shoes and as such, run the increased risk of infection and disease.

“We are collaborating in One Day Without Shoes because we wish people to walk into our store and ask why everyone is barefoot,” said Josh Hansen. “We’re doing this for those people who find themselves going barefoot because they have no choice. The impact of 2 shoes would be huge on someone’s life if that person didn’t have shoes before.”

In addition to One Day Without Shoes, Hansen Surfboards also participates in Soles4Souls every year. The campaign encourages people to leave their unwanted shoes at Hansen Surfboards in exchange for a discounted 10% off a new pair of shoes or sandals for each pair donated within the store.

“The donated shoes accumulate pretty quickly, and when we can’t keep more of them piled up in the back of the store, I drive out to Las Vegas towing a trailer full of these shoes and donate them to charity so people without shoes can use them,” added Josh. “Last year I drove out there with 3,500 pounds of shoes. It’s one of our favorite programs here because we all know it has such a large impact.”
