(Free-Press-Release.com) November 18, 2009 --
Nine talented young students of the Christina Rovics Vocal Studio in Bethel will present a benefit concert, “Singing for Joy”, Sunday, December 6th at 3:00 p.m. at the Bridgewater Congregational Church. The concert will feature Broadway hits of recent decades and a reception will follow dedicated to raising funds for the church’s ongoing charitable programs. The benefit concert is being spearheaded by Howard Rovics who plays organ for the Bridgewater Congregational twice each month. Mr. Rovics will accompany all of the singers at the piano.
Christina Rovics stated, “Most of the concert’s performers will be local area high school students from Danbury, New Fairfield, Ridgefield, Bethel and Brookfield, as well as Brewster and Carmel, New York. Only two are younger, and three are in their twenties. There are two high school seniors working toward professional careers in music, Annie Smith of Brookfield, and Dylan Manderlink of Ridgefield. Currently they are both in leading theatrical roles in local productions. Annie is appearing in “Clue” at Brookfield High School and Dylan is in “Noises Off” at Ridgefield High School.”
Rovics commented that, “Part of my current work with these talented young performers is helping them prepare for their college entrance auditions. They will perform popular Broadway songs from “Annie”, “Wicked”, “The Secret Garden”, “A Chorus Line”, “Thoroughly Modern Millie”, “Chicago” and “Wild Party”.”
The Christina Rovics Vocal Studio is celebrating its 20th year of success in 2009. Christina Rovics emphasizes vocal training that develops a student’s ability to sing in any style. “These styles include being able to belt out a song, which is mandatory for Broadway, as well as classical technique for opera, art songs, choral, and mixed voice for popular music. Some students do all equally well, while others express a preference for one or the other. It is the knowing of how to use the whole voice, in all its potential, that makes a confident singer. It is also a unique advantage that my husband, Howard Rovics, is always on hand to accompany lessons on our Steinway grand piano.”
Tickets are $10/person and $25/family of 3 or more. Tickets can be purchased in advance by sending a check payable to the Bridgewater Congregational Church, and mailed to the church at PO Box 7, Bridgewater, CT 06752. The church is located at 10 Clapboard Road, and can be contacted at 860-354-8283. Advance tickets will be held at the door, and tickets will be sold on December 6th also at the door.
