Christmas Concert, Christmas Village on Dec. 18 in La Cañada

La Canada, California, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) November 21, 2011 -- The joyous Christmas season will be rung in with fanfare and fun when La Canada Presbyterian Church combines a multimedia music program with a charming village of festive booths on Sunday, Dec. 18.

“A Christmas Musical Feast and Christmas Village” will feature the LCPC’s Chancel Choir & Orchestra for programs at 2:30 and 5 p.m., with the Christmas Village held from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

“The spirit and meaning of Christmas is summed up in the music we sing and hear every Christmas,” said Director of Music and Worship Arts Jack Lantz, who will conduct the orchestra and choir. “More than any other holiday, our celebration of Christmas cannot be separated from the music.”

But while the list of songs performed will include all the beloved carols of the season – “Joy to the World,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” “O Come All Ye Faithful” and “The First Noel” among them – there will also be some playful twists on tradition. The orchestra, for example, will combine “Jingle Bells” with Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever” for a pastiche appropriately titled “Jingle Bells Forever.” Also, the choir and orchestra will combine for a “Musicological Tour Through the Twelve Days of Christmas,” a selection that will present each day in a different style of music, ranging from classical to pop to contemporary, all accompanied by photos and videos.

“Snow and snowballs will also come to La Canada” for a performance of Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas,” Lantz promised, while a rendition of “Sleigh Ride” will be accompanied by a video that will have guests gliding along with the song of a wintry fairy land.

These kinds of multi-media components will be prominent throughout the program, as the musical numbers are enhanced by movie excerpts, photos, video, and inspirational narration and skits by LCPC’s Drama Ministry.

The actors will also perform in the Christmas Village, which will present brightly decorated booths in the Fellowship Hall and around the church campus. The eyes of the littlest guests are sure to be wide in wonder over Nativity ornaments, Christmas presents, working model trains, cookies, hot chocolate, face painting, games and opportunities for pictures with Santa.

“Every musical selection will be familiar to all, and every village event will be fun for all,” Lantz said. “We invite everyone in the community to join us for a high-quality, inspirational concert of familiar music and a festive Christmas Village.”

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children ages 12 and under. Reserved seats are available for $20. A special family plan is priced at $50 – two parents and any number of children.
