In the year 1937, the then President of the United States Franklin Roosevelt announced that the date when Columbus first stepped into the New World would be commemorated as Columbus Day. Years later in 1971, President Richard Nixon ensured that the day was remembered as a federal holiday. No one knew then that the New World would eventually tire of the continuous influx of people from all nations.
