Church Cross & Cell Phone Tower to be installed December 7, 2009

Epiphany Lutheran Church of Lake Worth FL, today announced the heavy lifting equipment will be onsite Monday December 7, 2009 to raise a 100 foot church cross that will also serve as a T-Mobile cell phone tower. Once lifted, it may be largest free standing church cross in all of Palm Beach County, and perhaps all of south Florida. Expected to be completed in time for Christmas, the 100 foot tall gleaming white Cross has a span of nearly 30 feet and a circumference of nearly 9 feet at its base. “We are excited to have this completed in time for this christmas.“ said Epiphany’s Pastor, the Rev. Douglas E. Fountain, Ph.D., LCSW. Adding, “I hope you will be as excited as we are about the positive impact for our church and school.”

In 2008, the church was approached by an interested T-Mobile, which agreed to design and build the cross with the concealed telephony equipment, in exchange for a long term lease. Prior to considering the project, the congregation and Pastor Fountain verified the safety through a number of sources including T-mobile. As well, the Palm Beach County School Board is actively placing towers on school property throughout the county. Statements by the World Health Organization, American Cancer Society, the Food and Drug Administration and others state there's no evidence that cell towers cause health problems. In general, the amount of radio energy being received from a tower such as this is far less than the amount that goes into your ear from your cell phone.
