"Circus Mobius" will feature new works of art by Detroit-based pop surreal artists Marc Nischan and Audrey Pongracz.

The opening reception will be held on Saturday, 12-12-09 7 to 11 PM at LIFT Designer Toys & Gallery (228 W. 4th Street, Royal Oak MI 48067). In addition to art, the opening will feature circus-themed food, live entertainment, raffles and other surprises. The exhibit will be on display at LIFT through January 9th.

About The Artists

Audrey Pongracz was born and raised in Detroit. Since an early age, Audrey has learned by studying the works of her favorite artists, both contemporary and historical. Many of her inspirations come from 17th and 18th century European art. Audrey’s artwork has been featured on the cover of Real Detroit Weekly and the Metro Times. She was recently voted “Best Local Artist” by the readers of Real Detroit and named by the Metro Times as one of Detroit’s top six artists under 30.

Marc Nischan has been performing at a high level in both art and music for the past two decades. Marc attended the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, graduating with a BFA in Illustration. But music came earlier in his life as Marc began playing guitar at the age of 14. He has performed with dozens of bands, probably best known as guitarist for The Twistin’ Tarantulas and currently a member of The Lincolns UK. Marc’s interest in art sprung from the need to design band posters and paraphernalia. Marc is also an enthusiastic hot rod builder and driver.

About LIFT

LIFT is an independent boutique and gallery with a focus on pop surreal art and designer art toys. Past events have included the Doktor A Solo exhibit in November 2009, Multiple Personalities II Group exhibit in spring 2009, MADL Citizens group exhibit in fall 2008 featuring Tristan Eaton, Mark Arminski, Audrey Pongracz, Julie West and Kathie Olivas among others, Detroit Plush Group Show in summer 2008 and the Glenn Barr Hell’s Proprietor Release in fall 2007.

LIFT carries the largest selection of designer toys in Michigan. These limited yet affordable collectible art pieces are typically made of vinyl, resin or plush and reflect a variety of art influences including surrealism, low brow, graffiti and Japanese animation. LIFT sells toys, apparel and media from brands such as Kidrobot, Upper Playground, StrangeCo, San-X, Uglydoll, and Blackspot Sneakers.

LIFT began as a small shop on 11 Mile Rd selling footwear and a limited selection of toys. Owner Kent Alverson moved the business to its existing 1500-square-foot location in the heart of downtown Royal Oak in early 2008. The larger location has made it possible to expand merchandise offerings and show full-time art exhibits throughout the year.
