Black Hawk, Colo. — June 20, 2011 — Looking to make this year’s Fourth of July celebration bigger and better than ever? Then, the City of Black Hawk is your destination. Celebrating its 20th year of patriotic pyrotechnics, Black Hawk transforms into “Boom Town” at dusk Monday, July 4, offering the largest fireworks display in the state. Visitors can celebrate Independence Day all weekend with live music from the Boom Town Band, gaming and other Fourth of July festivities in the City’s numerous casinos, and the fireworks show Monday evening to end the Independence Day weekend.
The City’s incredible fireworks display will span approximately 30 to 40 minutes, featuring more than 12,000 colorful aerial shells. The show features pyrotechnics from around the world, including aerial fireworks showcased at Disney World and the Montreal International Fireworks Competition last year. Revelers can even expect several newly designed fireworks to premiere in Black Hawk, including blooming flowers, silver crowns and special animated shells that “dance” across the sky.
Mountains, Music and More
“Visitors can stay in our luxurious casino hotels, spend the day playing at the casinos, enjoy live music all weekend, and cap the weekend with the largest fireworks show in the state,” said City of Black Hawk Mayor David Spellman. “For most Coloradans, Black Hawk is just a short drive away, making it the perfect getaway for the Fourth of July weekend.”
The Boom Town Band will play in the gazebo at Stroehle Square on the corner of Black Hawk St. and Main St., from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The Fourth of July fireworks display on Monday evening will be visible from most locations throughout the City, and visitors are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics to enjoy the show. Fireworks begin at dusk, which is typically around 9:30 p.m., and are free and open to all ages.
The City of Black Hawk is located just 35 miles west of Denver via I-70 or U.S. Highway 6. For driving directions, details about gaming and casino events, or more information about the Fourth of July fireworks show, visit www.cityofblackhawk.org or call 303-582-2292.
