FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) June 12, 2010 --

Albuquerque, NM June 19th – CureDuchenne, a national 501(c)3 dedicated to raising funds and awareness in the fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), is kicking off the CureDuchenne Adventures season with the 2010 Climb to CureDuchenne: Pick Your Peak. Teams from across the country, including Sandia Peak are gearing up to climb the many of the US’s most well-known peaks to raise money and awareness for DMD research. CureDuchenne Adventures was founded as a unique fundraising program that engages thrill-seekers, adventurers, and ordinary people in activities ranging from mountaineering to sailing while raising life-saving research dollars and building awareness for DMD, a form of muscular dystrophy that affects 20,000 boys in the U.S.

In Albuquerque, Team Nathan lead by team captain Jessica Rothe, and sponsored by Amerigroup Community Care of New Mexico, will tackle Cienega Trail at Sandia Peak as a part of this nationwide effort. The Climb to CureDuchenne: Pick Your Peak event hopes to raise $250,000 to go directly toward research for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), the most common and lethal genetic disorder affecting more than one in every 3,500 boys worldwide that is currently 100 percent fatal. Team Nathan has raised $1600 toward that goal. Donations can be made to this specific event at www.firstgiving.com/jessicarothe or on the general Cure Duchenne website under Nathan’s individual page.

“We are thrilled to be participating in the Pick Your Peak Challenge and are excited to begin our climb,” said Jessica Rothe, captain of Team Nathan. “We wanted to participate in honor of Nathan Rothe son of Jessica and Ted Rothe. Nathan was diagnosed 3 years ago with DMD when he was 5 years old. We were devastated to learn that there is no cure and the cause is severely under funded. This idea of having adventures that help the cause raise money was so unique. It is a good way for us all to contribute to curing Duchenne.”

Team Nathan is comprised of 17 members from around New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma, including: Cindy and Bill Chreist of Sunn Quality Homes of Albuquerque. Nathan and his parents will be coming from Dallas, Texas where they currently live. In addition to friends and family from around New Mexico, Jackie Norvill from Oklahoma will be walking with us as well.

The team will climb part of the 10,000 foot peak beginning on June 19th at 8:00 a.m. The climb will take the team approximately 4-5 hours to complete. The team will be climbing the Cienega Trail on the west side of the mountain.

“We are humbled by the response the Climb to CureDuchenne: Pick Your Peak challenge has received across the country and we are so excited for the teams to get started,” said Debra Miller, founder of CureDuchenne. “We wanted to find a way to engage thrill seekers, adventurers and ordinary people in multiple activities that would raise live-saving funds for DMD research and build awareness for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in a fun way.”

Teams are still being formed across the country. If you are interested in joining an existing team or creating your own team, please call Sean Marshall at 949-872-2552. To learn more about CureDuchenne Adventures, please visit www.cureduchenneadventures.org.
