Clinton, CT – The Clinton Volunteer Fire Department will celebrate its 100th anniversary this weekend with a host of events from beginning Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, through Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, including the department’s sponsorship of the 128th Annual Connecticut State Firefighters Association Convention.

As part of the convention festivities, an expo will be held at the Morgan High School beginning at 10:45am with an honor guard ceremony. Beginning at 5PM on Saturday, Sept 17th a Block Party will be held at the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department headquarters. The block party will include games, food, music and refreshments. The weekend will culminate on Sunday with a parade that will run on Main Street between the Causeway and fire headquarters featuring marching bands, honor guards and fire apparatus from across Connecticut as well as the tri-state area. Sunday’s parade will begin promptly at Noon. However, the public should be aware of the following:

Anyone attending the parade take I-95 to exit 64 from both directions. Head south on Route 145 to the intersection with Route 1. Spectators please take a left onto Route 1 and continue to any of the shopping centers along Route 1 (Stop & Shop, Walgreens, Shop Rite). Or turn right onto Route 1, go 3/10 of a mile to Ace Hardware on the left, or 1/2 mile to Pierson School on the right. All other parking areas west of these locations will be reserved for post-parade staging of apparatus.

Here's an update on the expected road closures for the Sept. 18 parade:


Residents living on the following streets can expect East Main Street to be closed to all vehicular traffic beginning around noon and re-opening around 3pm. Please note that this closure will affect Walgreens, Stop and Shop, ShopRite, and several other businesses. Special considerations should be made for prescriptions, medications and other necessities.

All Residential addresses between 2 and 192 East Main Street.
Residents on the following streets can expect detours as a result of the parade. East Main Street will be closed to traffic. In order to access Route 1, residents will be required to travel South on Beach Park Road, East on Shore Road to Groveway to Grove Beach Road to Route 1 in Westbrook.

The parade route and road closures will not prevent emergency services from reaching any of the above mentioned locations in the event of an emergency. For all other streets and areas of town, motorists can expect road closures preventing access to East Main Street between 11:45am and 3:30pm.
