The new Women's Clothing Store, "Shwop," in Portland, Oregon, is owned by Marci Pelletier. Shwop opened its doors to the public with a relatively "new concept" a few months ago in June 2012.

Since then Shwop has experienced exponential growth and will be seeking Crowdfunding to expand the store, with considerations of taking the concept in women's clothing National.

Shwop is a physical storefront in the Woodstock area of Portland, or Southeast Portland, Oregon. The new concept in affordable clothing for women is called "shwopping for clothes;" a form of clothes "swapping." swapping is a combination of SHOPPING for women's clothing and shoes, and SWAPPING women's clothing items.

Shwop's tagline and motto is "Shwop - The Smart Way to Shop and Swap " serving Portland, Oregon.

Marci Pelletier explains, "To Shwop, or to go shwopping, at my store is a whole new way to shop for clothing. At Shwop, we have a membership based concept that is extremely popular with the local ladies. We even get women coming in from all over the state or Oregon.

You pay an extremely affordable monthly membership fee of only $25.00, and then you're able to swap clothes, shoes and accessories."

Presently, Shwop provides high quality new clothes for women and slightly used clothing and shoes. A variety of sizes range to fit ladies from young to mature. A Shwop specialty is "vintage chic clothes and jewelry for women.

Shwop Owner, Marci Pelletier, plans to expand soon and open larger stores to accommodate a wider variety of shoppers and those looking to save money shopping for clothes in Portland, Oregon, the US, and eventually all of North America.

"Right now my store is just for women. We've built a large community of women who enjoy meeting up at the store, they shop for clothes and contribute (donate) clothes on a regular basis. The bigger store I'm planning will have items for the whole family, including kids clothes, and clothing men! People love the concept."

Through Shwop Women's Clothing Store, Marci uses her clothing donations and resources to support two women's organizations through Vouchers; also through member nominations. Says Marci, "The store is kind of like a social experiment wrapped in a business. It's a neighborhood store, but we're building up the community.

Members shop here for a variety of reasons but I think mostly it's the community aspect, connecting with each other, friendships have been made, and the importance of having a place to come where someone knows their name.

The two women's organizations I support are Shepherds Door and R.O.S.S. for 'Russian Oregon Social Services.' ROSS is right across the street from my shop and they don't get donations in the way of having a closet so when they have a woman in need, they reach out to me.

I also provide them with shopping vouchers based on the donations I take into Shwop. It is working out really well. I have already started talking with other organizations as my business grows, so will the community support. Some of my members have nominated women they know who need some help too which I love!"

In addition to the widespread appeal of the community aspect, women use Shwop to "...get great deals on quality clothes. My store is more boutique than a thrift store." - All quote sources are from Shwop Store Owner, Marci Pelletier.

How Does Shwop Plan to Grow for the Future?

"My vision for the store is to be nationwide and online so anyone can be a part of the community and the advantage of the offerings. Right now, I'm building my brand locally and helping women as much as possible. The success of the shwopping concept has been embraced by so many women, they're constantly asking me to expand.

I get requests on social media and Facebook all the time to take my Shwopping concept to their locations all over the country and North America! I plan to use Crowdsourcing or Crowd-Funding to expand; be able to serve more people and other communities."

Exact details for the upcoming Shwop expansion Crowsourcing (Crowd Funding Project) plans soon to be released. Shwop owner, Marci Pelletier, invites everyone to reach out to her on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/ShwopPDX) and other social media outlets.
