An ex Northern Rock employee who received her redundancy as a Christmas present has swapped her tax analyst role for sandwiches and sausage rolls.
Annette Marshall from Bedlington Station has opened Cold Cuts Delicatessen in the village’s Ravensworth Terrace to supply cooked meats, homemade quiche, hot roast sandwiches and healthy options including wraps and salads.
Annette has taken over the old hairdresser’s shop which has stood empty for the past two years and she is determined to bring a much needed service back into the community.

http://www.highlightspr.co.uk “There is nothing worse than seeing empty shop fronts along the main shopping area,” she said. “All of our products are fresh, local and cooked on the premises and as an added bonus; we have gained five stars on Northumberland’s new ‘Scores on the Doors’ rating scheme for hygiene standards in food businesses.”
The scheme summarises the findings of inspections under the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006, and provides customers with information about the hygiene standards in food businesses. Ratings of five stars are awarded only to businesses ‘demonstrating best practice’ and showing ‘very high standards of compliance with food safely legislation’.
Annette has had help setting up the business from Go Wansbeck Business Enterprise Coach, Lisa Scott who has helped her create a business plan, a cash flow prediction and detailed market research.
“Annette is really living the dream, “said Lisa. “ From redundancy to running her own business in just seven months is a fantastic achievement and with her plans and the support of the local community I’m sure the business will go from strength to strength.”
As well as invaluable support from Go Wansbeck, Annette has also had help from close family friend Bobby Cowell who owns the local butchers shop. “I’ve had two fantastic mentors helping me, Lisa and Bobby’s support and guidance has been brilliant, “said Annette.
