BRECKSVILLE, Ohio (July 7, 2010) – Students go to college to gain a valuable education to guide them into the real world; and they attain their specific skill sets through their college of choice. But is it enough to just provide a well-rounded education? Many would say yes, but at one specialized career college in Brecksville, Ohio, that is not the case.

Stautzenberger College, a two-year institution with an array of technical programs, has committed to giving back to the community in a variety of ways. Since its inception in 2005, the college has forged partnerships with some of Northeast Ohio’s most well-known and respected non-profit organizations.

“It’s a cornerstone of our college to give back to causes we truly care about,” said Donna K. Palmer, Esq., director of Stautzenberger College’s Brecksville campus. “Organizations like the Humane Society of Akron and Geauga County, Legal Aid and the Cleveland and Akron Animal Protective Leagues are just among the few fantastic causes we care so much about.”

Charitable Giving in 2010

In 2010, Stautzenberger College helped volunteer, provide resources and time, helping raise nearly $200,000 for local charities. Some of the charities the college took part in included the April 30 Cleveland Animal Protective League’s Pledge for Pets Radiothon, which raises money for shelter animals. That event brought in $140,000 with the support of the college, its students, staff and faculty.

Another major event Stautzenberger College took part in was the “Bark in the Park” Pawsibilities pledge walk for the Humane Society of Greater Akron on May 15. This organization helps protect abused, neglected and abandoned animals.

“You might find a trend in where we focus our time and resources,” Palmer added. “One of our most popular programs at Stautzenberger is the AVMA accredited veterinary technician program. Our Vet Tech program is extremely hands-on and one in which our students and faculty get heavily involved.”

Recently, the faculty, staff and students took part in the 9th Annual Pet Expo on June 5 at Hardest Park in Akron.

Just last Saturday, June 26, the college participated in two events: It sponsored “A Doggone Purrfect Night,” an event for the Geauga Humane Society’s Rescue Village celebration, where the Village was transformed into a gala-like event including an elegant dinner, silent auction and mixer to raise funds for the cause. The college also sponsored and participated in the 12th Annual Dog Jog & Fun Walk with the City of Brecksville Recreation Department. Ms. Karcher, the college’s director of admissions said “it was a challenge to tell who had more fun—the walkers or their pets!”

Other Planned Events
The team at Stautzenberger College has several more events in the works for the remainder of the year throughout Northeast Ohio, including the Legal Aid Society Luncheon and a 5k race in support of the Ohio Court Reporters Association. The race on will be held on Sept. 18, and will begin and end at the Brecksville campus.

The college will also be hosting a food drive in support of the Cleveland Food Bank in July. The college will be working with its students, staff and media partners to collect dry and canned goods to benefit those most in need. Anyone interested in contributing to this event may directly contact the college.

“It’s definitely one thing to strive to offer the best education possible, ensuring our students can immediately enter the workforce primed and ready for a promising career,” Palmer exclaimed. “But it’s another thing to couple that with being truly socially responsible and caring about our communities in ways that our students can directly benefit from in the classroom and out.”
