Comedy For The Soul Premieres in Dallas

Dallas, Georgia, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) August 11, 2010 -- Comedy For The Soul, a new comedy show produced by HGTV host, WNBA Champion and former ESPN announcer Fran Harris debuts at Brooklyn Jazz Cafe on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 with an Open Mic competition. Harris, who comes from a family of comical Ph.D.s says she got the stand up bug when she moved to Los Angeles in 2003. "I was feeling like I needed a challenge so on a whim I drove to The Comedy Store and got on stage," said Harris.

The new weekly shows under the Comedy For The Soul banner are "Open Mic Cafe", which debuts on Wednesday, August 18th and "Sunday Night Stand Up" debuts on Sunday August 22nd both at Brooklyn, a popular jazz cafe known for its great food and entertainment. "We're excited to be partnering with Fran and Fran Harris Entertainment on what we believe will be a great addition to an already appetizing menu of offerings at Brooklyn," said owner Lorna Tate.

Harris, a Dallas native moved back to the Lone Star State about a year ago to lay the foundation for what she calls a Tyler Perry-like empire 'only bigger'. "After living in L.A. for almost five years I realized that I'd learned enough and made enough contacts while there to live wherever I want and still create an enviable media empire, so I moved home," said Harris. "Shortly after I made that decision I got a call to host my own show on HGTV (Homes & Garden Television in 100 million homes), so I'd say it worked out just fine."

New and veteran comics are encouraged to perform. All performances are taped for television and Internet broadcast.
