With five million Americans expected to travel overseas for medical treatment in the next two years, Global Surgery Providers is making it easier for patients to have local professionals in place through the country to assist them in making it happen.

Atlanta, GA June 17, 2010 -- Last year, more than one million Americans traveled overseas for medical treatment, and over 70% of those involved major surgeries and medical procedures. Just 5 years ago, the majority of these patients were Dental and Cosmetic procedures, but as the number of uninsured and under-insured Americans continues to grow, orthopedic procedures and heart surgeries account for the large majority of these patients, who receive these procedures for well under 50% of the cost here in the US, including all traveling expenses for themselves and a companion. Before you say “that sounds too good to be true…” consider the fact that hospitals such as Harvard Medical, Johns Hopkins, the Mayo Clinic, and 18 of the leading U.S. medical schools in the US all own or operate hospitals overseas, and fears about the quality of offshore surgery soon vanish.

Presently, this is a $5 Billion dollar business, and according to Forbes Magazine, it is expected to grow to $20 Billion by 2012, with over 5 Million Americans going outside of the country for procedures. “I’ll bet you had no idea”, says Jack Schafer, a founder of Global Surgery Providers, which is one of the accredited facilitators developing this market). “In our own recent informal survey, we found that when we asked over 200 – 45 to 65 year old mall visitors just north of Atlanta “what did they know about Medical Tourism”, an overwhelming response of over 93% had never heard it.” Schafer suggests, “that is the same reality around the country. Here’s a business that has grown to over a million US Patients a year, and most potential patients do not even know this option exists until they are forced into looking, and even then, they have to be willing to work with a company in another state who is going to send them to another country. Schafer says, “ we do it every day, but I’m really quite surprised that it is working right now as well as it does. Traveling can be a frightening process in itself… add to that having a surgical procedures, and it is not surprising that an industry that offers this much hope and opportunity, has been so slow in catching on.”

The biggest objection to overcome in patients minds is that the quality of medical care overseas, would be in someway inferior to that in the USA. “Quite the opposites” says Schafer, “ not only do the International facilities that have opened specifically to accommodate International patients meet or exceed American Medical standards, but many are affiliated with and/or associated with some of the best in the USA”. Schafer continues, “it has taken our company three years of traveling and visiting medical facilities around the world to coordinate our network of 16 providers what we believe are among the very best hospitals and surgeons anywhere. Many of these facilities are exploring cutting edge technologies and performing experimental procedures that are restricted by regulation here in the US.” Schafer adds, “ I believe the continued exploration and further development of technologies such as Adult Stem Cells, will expand our present limitations and add new possibilities that we can’t even comprehend today”.

Obviously, when 9 out of 10 prospective customers have never heard of your product, no matter how incredible or promising the future may look, three is a problem… and the problem in introducing Medical Tourism is that we (the accredited facilitators) are handling all of the clients that we can. What is needed is to refine the “product distribution channel”, so the any prospective patient, regardless of their finances, or where they happen to live, have the opportunity to speak with a local professional and consider outsourcing their medical or surgical procedure.

Now Global Surgery Providers has just announced that they are no longer working directly with patients. We have changed our business model to become the 1st Wholesale Medical Tour Operator, and we are in the process of construction a network of between 100 and 150 of the very best and most reputable Retail Travel Agencies that can work on the client side of developing this medical Tourism business. With 15 years as a Wholesale Leisure Tour Operator, and now as leaders in the Medical Tourism area, we know how to organize the programs, and the professional and facilities in our network are among the best in the world. What is missing is our ability to connect one-on-one with the most important person in the Medical Tourism process – the patient.”

With the fastest growing segment of the population after unemployment, being those that are un- or under insured, this answer of being able to bring these procedures to them has been there all along through these Travel Professionals. Schafer adds, “the next big wave of outsourcing planned medical procedures is now starting to take place with self-insured employers, and the insurance industry, and having been negotiation the Medical Tourism option with them over the past three years, the only objection that they have raised is that they need to have their patients able to connect with the process on a local level.”

“This professional agency licensing program is the first of any USA Medical Tourism Facilitator to do exactly that, and it has taken a restructuring of the process and the distribution channel to make that happen. The travel, tourism, and hospitality industry is the largest in the world, and with training and procedures in place, these professionals are the answer that with bring this opportunity to everyone”.

“The largest concerns that a patient has in considering going outside of the country is quality, and we are providing the opportunity to visit some of the finest facilities in the world… not just in your hometown. Secondly, is what would my family and my own physician say?” That’s the most surprising says Schafer… “ With a 60-70% savings, family members are able to travel along – in fact, it’s recommended. The opportunity to turn your recuperation time into a basically free family vacation in an exotic country is quite appealing over sitting at home watching daytime soaps. As for your physician ??? They do all of the pre and post surgery work here at home, and outsourcing often provides the financial difference between a patient being able to receive a life changing procedures… or not.

Back to the agencies… training is at the forefront, and the Internet services available today, we are developing an online infrastructure that will allow your agent to be connected to your host country medical professionals at all time through teleconferencing and online chats. The agent become the conduit, doing what they do best in arranging the travel process, leaving all of the medical decisions and details up to the patient, the home physician, and the host country provider. This IS the wave of the future, peeking in the door right now. Schafer continues, “we are ‘all-in’ with this agency commitment, having completely changed our role from working with patient directly to that of a wholesaler”.

The future of outsourcing planned medical and surgical procedures, to some of the finest facilities in the world, at 60%+ savings, is here today.
