Commissioner Rogers hosted property tax appeal forums in Chicago last week

Chicago, Ill. (May 18, 2011)– Commissioner Larry R. Rogers, Jr. of the Cook County Board of Review, along with 3rd Legislative District Senator Mattie Hunter, 13th Legislative District Senator Kwame Raoul, 5th Legislative District Representative Kenneth Dunkin, 9th Legislative District Representative Arthur L. Turner, 10th Legislative District Representative Derrick Smith, 27th Legislative District Representative Monique Davis, 1st District Cook County Commissioner Earlean Collins, 16th Ward Alderman JoAnn Thompson, 20th Ward Alderman Willie B. Cochran, 21st Ward Alderman Howard B. Brookins, 28th Ward Alderman Jason C. Ervin, 29th Ward Alderman Deborah Graham, 34th Ward Alderman Carrie M. Austin, 37th Ward Alderman Emma Mitts, the Westside Ministers Coalition, and Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago, hosted property tax appeal forums at Malcolm X College (1900 W. Van Buren, Chicago, IL) and Embassy Church (5848 S. Princeton, Chicago, IL) on May 12th and May 14, 2011, respectively.
Commissioner Rogers has actively been involved in educating the public on property tax appeals since 2004. Through community outreach endeavors, Commissioner Rogers and his staff, go into various townships throughout Cook County and walk taxpayers through the appeals process. With the help of local elected officials, Commissioner Rogers informs property owners through a brief presentation and step-by-step instruction on how to file an appeal. “I truly enjoy connecting with the taxpayers I serve”, stated Commissioner Rogers. “They always re-energize me, because they are uplifted by the free services we provide at the Board of Review, and are relieved that the appeals process is fairly simple.”
Larry R. Rogers, Jr. is the 3rd District Commissioner at the Cook County Board of Review. The Board of Review serves as a quasi-judicial government agency administered to analyze property tax appeals. The Board of Review does not assess property, set tax rates, or collect taxes. There is no fee to file an appeal, and in most cases an attorney is not necessary. Appeal complaint forms can be obtained at the office of Commissioner Larry R.
