Committee on National Security says armed stock in Nigeria can prosecute full scale war

The Presidential Committee set up in 2005 by the Federal Government had predicted the uncontrollable activities of religious sects and their capacity to paralyze the country, if not checked on time. When every thing seems normal,The security report by the committee, known as Presidential Action Committee on Control of Violent Crimes and Illegal Weapons, had equally disclosed that different groups and individuals had successfully amassed arms capable of making Nigeria engage in a full scale war. The report was emphatic in identifying critical factors which have been encouraging arms proliferation in Nigeria, as it listed armed conflicts and internal strife, armed robbery and activities of hired assassins, youth restiveness and armed protests, activities of ethnic militia, trans-boarder banditry, religious terrorism, political thuggery, drug trafficking, cultism and communal conflicts as areas to which the arms were being channeled.

It, however, blamed the inaction of the government against early signals to violence and terrorism in the country on “inefficacy of criminal justice system which has been creating lack of confidence in the system and impunity.
