As road tax, congestion charges and petrol costs continue to rise, it’s no wonder the popularity of the electric bike is soaring as a cost effective and environmentally responsible means of transport, giving the freedom to travel with the minimum of effort.
Compass Holidays a tour operator based in Cheltenham, which specialises in walking and cycling holidays has seen the potential in the electric bike and has snapped up four different FreeGo models as an option on its cycling breaks and holidays around the UK, as well as becoming a dealer in Gloucestershire.
The electric bikes are not just for keen cyclists as the electric motor and pedal assist means the rider is in control of how much or little effort is put into travelling, making them ideal for commuters wanting to reduce costs, young people wanting independence without the high insurance premiums or holidaymakers looking for a more leisurely option to the standard bicycle.
Steve Short, director of Compass Holidays, is convinced that electric bikes are the way forward and is championing electric bikes as the mode of transport for the future, as he comments, “The bikes cost as little as 16p to fully charge from a mains outlet and can travel In excess of 45 miles on a full charge. The rapid increase in the popularity of these models therefore isn’t surprising when you consider the alternative cost of petrol, tax, insurance and congestion charges for a car or motorbike.”
Compass offers three models with varied battery types as well as the limited addition Regency model, which combines the latest technology with the styling of a bike from the 1950’s, complete with wicker basket and emerald green finish.
The company is offering a 25% discount on the hire of all electric bikes until the end of March and a 10% discount on all 17.5aH models sold until the end of December.
