The Loch District is an appropriate description for Scotland, a country with over 31000 lochs and lochans. Little Briar Cottage, overlooking Loch Earn in Lochearnhead, is just one of the holiday cottages in Scotland to boast stunning views over water, a loch garden, jetty, slipway, mooring buoys and fishing rights.
Lochearnhead is so central within Scotland, close to the A84 and A85, where Stirling, the Trossachs, Perthshire and the Highlands meet, that it is an ideal base for visitors who want to reach other freshwater lochs, Munro's and tourist attractions.
Loch Earn is 6.5 miles long surrounding two islands that were once Crannogs (Pictish dwellings). Popular for trout fishing and water sports in the summer, the loch also boasts; a sea plane, water sports and activities centre, fish farm, sailing club and boat hire company. The local hotels enjoy views over Loch Earn. You can even hire a fishing rod and tackle in the Lochearnhead Post office and the village store supplies bait and fishing permits.
Lochearnhead sits at the head of Loch Earn with the Victorian village of St Fillans and the St Fillans Golf Club at its basin, which flows into the River Earn. Loch Earn is tidal -an effect known as seiching -which has nothing to do with the sun and moon. This phenomenon takes place in Lake Garda, Lake Eerie, Lake Baikal and a few other lakes of the world.
Little Briar cottage owner Kim Proven says "The cottage views are breathtaking over Loch Earn to Edinample castle and Glen Ample. We are also very close to lochs Voil, Lubnaig, Tay, Venacher, Katrine, Lomond, Achray, Ard and Awe to name a few. Guests enjoy loch side and water activities as well as the forests walks, cycle routes, fishing, golf courses, mountains and Munro's"
There is no doubt that the Lake District is a popular spot however if you have never experienced the wonders of The Loch District then a holiday cottage in Scotland on the shores of the very central Loch Earn might be a good place to start.
