Contact your airline or tour operator before your insurer, advises Antur Insurance

April 28, 2010

Following the disruption to air passengers this week, leading broker, Antur Insurance, is advising travellers to contact their airline or travel operator to check if they can make alternative plans.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) April 28, 2010 -- While some planes have taken to the sky, many flights have been cancelled or delayed leaving thousands of British passengers stranded abroad.
For those with insurance cover, Antur is advising them to speak to their airline or tour operator and check the small print of their insurance policy.
Gary Stevens from Antur said: “The chaos and confusion for air passengers caused by the volcano has highlighted the importance of taking out adequate travel insurance cover.

“We are advising customers to make contact with their airline first to see if alternative arrangements can be made in the event of a delayed or cancelled flight. If the flight has been cancelled, usually the airline will provide a refund or an alternative flight, and if it’s delayed then the airline should provide refreshments for you.
“Each insurance policy is different and some providers are paying out, depending on whether the event is classed as an Act of God or bad weather. If the provider is treating it as bad weather, this means that customers may be entitled to make a claim under the specific terms of their policy.

“With many people buying their insurance online through a comparison site, there is a tendency for customers to gloss over the small print and click through to the cheapest deal. It’s always advisable to read the small print and check exactly what you’re covered for as not every policy will include cover in the event of a volcano, but it’s usually classed under a natural disaster.
“Brokers exist to help people make the right choices for their needs so if you’re in doubt, it’s best to go through a broker who can talk through the correct policy for you. A broker will also help you make a claim and guide you through the process which can often be confusing.”

Antur Insurance Services Ltd was formed in 2001 as a joint venture between four existing companies. It has grown into a network of local offices throughout South Wales which understand their customers’ needs and can offer the personal touch to insurance. Its head office is Walter Road in Swansea.
