Cost of installing solar panels set to fall

The cost of installing a solar hot water system or solar PV system is likely to fall in the UK as a result of an increase in the number of people choosing to install solar panels. The new feed in tariff begins on the 1st April and for the first time, you will be paid to produce your own energy. The payment will be around £1,100 for a 2.5kW system. As a result of the feed in tariff is anticpated that the costs of installing solar panels in the UK will fall. Wayne Morris of the big green company has cautioned new customers installing solar panels of going for the cheapest option". We are likely to see a number of new companies coming into this market who are looking to make money without looking after the interests of the customer.

In response to this, the big green company have opened up 2 new solar panel centres, where you can see solar thermal (hot water) and solar pv working. The big green company says it has done this so that we can begin to educate people on what the ebenfits of solar energy is. If people can see how they work, they have confidence in installing them. They have 2 solar panel centres in the North West of England with a further 10 planned by the end of the year.

So what should you consider if you ar looking to install panels and how do you choose a company to tdo the install:

a) Look at the installations they have already done.
b) make sure the installation is carried out by a reputable installer.
c) don't go with the cheapest quote.

If the system is installed correctly, you will benefit from around 30 years of free energy. With energy bills set to increase, solar panels can be a good way to reduce your energy bills.
