Costa del Sol holiday enquiries remain high

Enquiries for rental holiday homes in the Costa del Sol remained high in February following on from a successful January period. The latest figures from released by Costadelvillas showed a 34% year on year increase from 2010 for the first two months of this year.

The trend fits with a number of other travel agencies and airlines who are also reporting an increase in bookings for Spain. Steve Jones, of Costadelvillas, believes the increase in interest is down to a change in the mentality of British holidaymakers: “In the past three years we’ve seen a decline in bookings for Spain due to the economic climate. Brits have been reluctant to travel abroad and those that have opted for cheaper countries like Egypt and Turkey”.

The recovery of the Costa del Sol is related to an increase in travel into Europe in general according to Jones “With signs of a slow recovery many Brits are now rethinking their plans, and along with the increasing value of the Pound against the Euro travelling within Europe is once again looking like a sensible choice”.

Amongst the popular resorts on the Costa del Sol coast is the city of Marbella and its surrounding towns such as Elviria, Ojen and Puerto Cabopino. The area has gained a reputation as one of the most glamorous regions in Europe and has been a longstanding favourite for affluent European holidaymakers. Marbella is also starting to attract an increasing number of American tourists following the visit of the First Lady last year.
