Jeffery Philip Nelson, who has stayed in the top 100 singer/songwriter albums on iTunes, has written all songs from his debut album with Americans in mind. Growing up in the infamous small town of San Pedro, CA, a place where everybody knows everyone (and not because of its size), Jeffrey saw every opportunity of life as a platform for writing a song of depth. He studied people and their practices, allowing his heart to break when their hearts broke and was filled with joy when their's were filled with joy. He was a boy of passion and lived only on compassion. At the age of ten, Jeffery Philip Nelson was exposed to the understanding of divorce. Before ten, he believed that every other child in school had two parents and they were happily married (his parents were his only example). During the end of his fifth grade year at school, Jeff witnessed one of his neighborhood friends parents get in a violent fight which only ended in the understanding of divorce. Obviously since then he has witnessed many more common stories, but the reality of the world never sat easy on his heart. In the song "The Great Divorce", Jeff defines a very specific story of a friend of his which is in the process of leaving his wife. Jeff, who takes the role as counselor in the song, begs his friend to tell him the truth of the split, only to find that the friend is leaving his wife for the lustful desires of his heart. In one of the concluding lines he sings "The media machine has got your number, selling sex and pretty thighs". But although this song may sound dark and depressing it is brought to life with a chorus that pleads "please don't let up to soon, I've got a lot of faith in you and your wife". As this song can be defined as nothing but country music, his whole album slips in and out of country, folk, pop, and rock (but staying cohesive at the same time). This singer/songwriter is trying to pull on the heartstrings of America and begs the message, we need to have more peace with each other, any way it can be achieved. Check out the Album on iTunes and see the next artist that will be surfacing in the indie acoustic scene.
