CRAIG THE BARBER® PLEDGES TO BANISH THE WORD “METROSEXUAL” FROM HIS VOCABULARY

(December 1, 2011) – After careful thought and consideration, Craig the Barber®, Hollywood’s favorite men’s grooming expert, and editor-in-chief of TheMensRoom.com, has pledged to his readers, clients and fellow barbers to ban the word “metrosexual” from his vocabulary. Craig made this pledge in a video he posted on The MensRoom.com, his men’s grooming blog, where he explains how he believes the word has become taboo and has stunted the growth of the men’s grooming industry. He asks others to join him in a collective movement to retire the word.

Craig explains that the “M” word, while first helpful in generating interest among men to care more about their appearance, has since taken on a negative connotation and has now become associated with over-grooming practices, including sparsely waxed eyebrows and frosted tips. He explains that he believes it scares off men from the practice of grooming themselves, and eliminating the “M” word from existence will encourage men to enjoy the current “barbering renaissance” of straight-edge shaves and hot towels without judgment or labels.

Craig’s philosophy centers around a realistic and approachable grooming technique for men, emphasizing and improving – never changing –what they already have. He shares his advice and tips on his personal blog, TheMensRoom.com, and also frequently contributes to a number of other grooming and lifestyle blogs.

“I have found that many men already consider themselves to be well groomed. But when the “M” word was suddenly applied to general barbering services, or a man who uses a grooming product became labeled as such, guys were spooked,” said Craig the Barber, editor-in-chief of The Men’s Room. “My thought is that a well-groomed man is just that, no extra label required. I hope that by eliminating the “M” word we can encourage men to take pride in the fact that they care about their appearance, and there will be no shame in being a man conscious of his appearance.”
