Create the perfect Media Wall
Does your living room look like a warehouse for audio/visual equipment?
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) November 25, 2011 --
A media wall can be the focal point of a room and help you get organized. Media walls can be traditional or modern and can fit in with almost any design style. These entertainment centres can house everything from old record players to modern flat screens. Use a media wall in a bachelor pad or chic sitting room to house your electronics in style.
Does your living room look like a warehouse for audio/visual equipment? An entertainment centre will house your television set, VCR, stereo system and gaming console in one space-saving place. These custom wall units are specifically designed for the electronic gear.
Since the idea of the family room is to bring everyone together in one multifunctional space, here are a few of my tricks for setting up a television without disrupting the inclusive environment. Placement: keep the TV at a 90-degree angle to the main windows. That way, it doesn't interfere with anyone's ability to look over and enjoy the views. (It also helps cut down on glare, a common problem with daytime watching.) Screen size. The best TV isn't necessarily the biggest one you can afford. What you want is one that's the right size for your space. The general rule is a viewing distance of roughly two to three times the screen diagonal. So a 40-inch screen, for instance, is best viewed from about 7 to 10 feet away.
A media wall needs to house electronics as well as DVDs, CDs, albums, gaming equipment, video games and even books. Place floating shelves over the TV to create an inexpensive entertainment centre and add height. You can flank either side of the TV with a bookshelf for more storage and to create the look of an entertainment centre. Wicker baskets add a country feeling while giving you space to hide away video game controllers. Silver or mosaic jewellery boxes can serve as a decorative area to hide a remote so it's out of sight without getting lost.
Since this is a multifunctional room, you'll want dimmable lighting (if any at all) for movie watching, soft light for entertaining, and task lighting for reading and homework. I like to put recessed overhead lights on a dimmer, ample reading light by every chair, and fixtures around the periphery of the space for accent lighting.
