Curb Your Enthusiasm is a show about Larry David...

It’s a comedy show that used to be on HBO and it won a bunch of comedy awards so my favorable review is going to be nothing new to the enlightened television watcher who by fluke or fate doubles as a reader. It’s a show about Larry David, the guy who wrote Seinfeld all those years. And to think they just wrote themselves…

So if you liked Seinfeld, you’ll like this, because the whole style of absurd situations, oddball characters, and unbelievable coincidences all under the umbrella of nothing is repeated. Except thanks to HBO, there’s cussing and a bit of soft-core, but only once and for like two seconds on the TV’s TV. So don’t get too excited, you confused young boys who started liking your older sister a little too much this summer.
But yeah, if you’re hungry for some new Seinfeld humor, then you’ll dig it. I know I do. I don’t think it shows on TV anymore, but they have box sets, so go for it. Grab that box with both hands. The only annoying thing about the show is that people yell too much. A lot of funny conversations degenerate into five people shouting at each other about a situation that could easily be resolved with soft-spoken rationalism. Sometimes you can see the hernias and ulcers and veins exploding."

"Larry’s on form here in this first season episode as he yet again quarrels with Lewis, insults a black doctor in an attempt to be “affable” and is labelled a bon-a-fide racist by a would be employee.

After losing Cheryl’s prescription for a much needed dermatological remedy; Larry is forced into a series of situations in an attempt to fix the situation. First, he sorts through an overflowing garbage bin in search of the missing scrip, then is forced to apologize for (and explain his “affable” joke) in a room full of a black doctor’s black friends, before a disgruntled one time interviewee publically brands him a racist. Finally, after Cheryl bites the bullet and bothers her off hours doctor, Larry ruins things once again by attempting to bribe an overworked pharmacist into letting him jump the line.

This is a strong episode. Quintessential Curb Your Enthusiasm subjects are brought into play as Larry makes a mother of a misjudgement with Lewis’ doctor friend. Meanwhile, Larry’s ongoing feud with his friend’s new beau continues to boil away and we continue to sympathise with the put upon Cheryl as Larry continues to offend, embarrass and enrage.

One of the first episodes to really factor in the topic of race, and one that does it perfectly in humiliating Larry over and over again. Plenty to enjoy here and highly recommended."
