Every year around early to mid spring all around the nation Subterranean Termites begin to eat through walls and do what comes natural to them and fly out to create more colonies. This always comes to be a surprise to the Dallas/Fort Worth homeowner but no secret to professional pest control operators in the DFW area. As a 30 year veteran of the pest and termite control business Chris Delaney owner of A.N.T.T.S = A North Texas Termite Specialist says " This is totally normal, they swarm every year but this year seems to be a little longer than usual" . In the past few years termite swarms have seem to decrease and a lot of pest control companies seem to think it has something to do with the introduction of the chemical Termidor . Since the product works so well as a non-repellent it has been killing of colonies around Dallas/Fort Worth area for years now! With older products it did not attack and kill whole colonies like Termidor does so well. It is well know that each termite swarm season is different and depends on all sorts of conditions that determine how big and how long they will last ? The recent past swarms were cut short due to late cold fronts that came upon the Dallas area after the termites had already begun to swarm which in turn shuts them down for the season. Now the good thing about a large termite swarm is that homeowners who had know idea that worker termites lurking just under the paint in their bathroom, kitchen wall are there. When they eat through the sheet rock and mud starts to build up on their walls the resident has the chance to call out a pest control professional and have them identified as termites and begin a treatment plan. Most homes that have a termite problem should have at least a full perimeter treatment along with treating all plumbing areas in the house but some cases a spot treatment will work. Of course a full perimeter is always the best protection from future termite problems.
