Dallas Native Wins 2009 Texas Yoga Championships
Yoga Champion, Joseph Encinia, Wins 1st Place at Texas Yoga Championships

Dallas, TX – November 11, 2009 –Bikram Yoga Dallas alum yoga teacher and Dallas native, Joseph Encinia , won first place in the men’s division of the Texas Yoga Championships held at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, TX on November 9, 2009. The Texas Yoga Championship Regional Competition is part of the International Championships organized by non profit organization USA Yoga.
Mr. Encinia grew up in Dallas, Texas and at a young age suffered from rheumatoid arthritis, a heart attack and excessive weight gain. The physical challenges he faced as a child affected his mental and emotional health as a young adult. At the age of 19 Mr. Encinia discovered Bikram Yoga and within a year, his life was transformed on all levels. By practicing yoga daily, he achieved vibrant health shedding pounds and ridding himself of medication. Joseph first competed in the Texas Yoga Asana Championships in 2005. After years of consistent practice and dedication Mr. Encinia won 1st place in the 2009 National Yoga Asana Championship and placed 2nd internationally. Bikram Yoga has given Joseph the gift of life. Now his mission in life is sharing the gift of yoga and inspiring others to be the best they can be. Joseph teaches yoga full time and enjoys traveling, studying philosophy and playing the classical guitar.
As the 1st place 2009 Texas Yoga Champion winner, Mr. Encinia along with 2nd place men’s division winner, Eguene Sabala will be competing along with other regional winners at the 2010 National and International Championships to be held in February, 2010 in Los Angeles, CA.
The United States Yoga Federation (USA Yoga) , www.usayoga.org, was founded in 2008 as a non-profit organization and is currently seeking to qualify yoga as an Olympic sport. USA Yoga has been established to qualify as the national governing body for yoga with the United States Olympic Committee; to coordinate with organizations in India, Europe, Asia, South America, Australia, and elsewhere to create an international yoga federation to be sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee; and to provide American athletes with the training and resources to develop and maintain the mental acuity and physical conditioning needed to be competitive in the sport of yoga.
