Dangerous Games/Harmful Behaviors Part III

(Free-Press-Release.com) April 21, 2010 -- This week’s focus during the Dangerous Games/Harmful Behaviors series will be deviant behaviors and activities youth are participating in that result in physical harm to their bodies.

Cutting , emos and thumb tacks are terms the general public are not familiar with when it comes to dangerous youth activities. Parents and educators in particular need to know that each is relative to popular trends that teenagers and younger youths are involved in. The violence displayed in the home and community environment coupled with lack of adult supervision are the prime causes of youth violence. This includes the dangerous games and physically and mentally harmful behaviors youth are displaying without parents noticing. One of the problems mental health professionals and other specialists encounter are the stereotypes. The children that are sniffing, gambling, causing themselves, friends and classmates harm include high achievers and athletes. These youth are not from any particular economic sector but instead, cross socio-economic, cultural, racial and gender lines and are taking chances that prelude or result in mental and physical health concerns or even death. Students are unaware of the too often tragic outcomes of these games. Ms. Rodriguez, certified guidance counselor with over a decade of experience working with children says, “The warning signs are there. Informed families can bring a change and make a huge difference in their children’s loves”. Parents and educators are often unaware of signs and symptoms of troubled youth. Wingspan Seminars’ youth coordinators are collecting stuffed animals for their Hugs for Haiti Campaign to give the children something warm to hold on to. Mayor Pierre and Commission Audrey Edmondson are supporting this initiative that will assist the youth as they collect from the police and fire departments in Miami-Dade.
