The Kansas City Vocal Institute is announcing Edward Huggins as the winner of the Daryl Waters Voice Scholarship.

(Overland Park, KS – October 21, 2010) The Kansas City Vocal Institute is announcing Edward Huggins as the winner of the Daryl Waters Voice Scholarship. The scholarship will provide Edward with free voice lessons for an entire year through the Kansas City Vocal Institute. Edward is a student at F.L. Schlagle High School in Kansas City, KS and a student of choir teacher Darryl Ammons. The scholarship was made possible by contributions from Daryl Waters and the KCVI – Music Education Charities.
Daryl Waters is a Tony Award winning composer. His compositions, scores, and orchestrations have been nominated for several Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score in 1996 for Bring in 'da Noise/Bring in 'da Funk. He won the 2009-2010 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Orchestration and the 2010 Tony Award for Best Orchestration for the musical Memphis.
The KCVI Music Education Charities were created by the Kansas City Vocal Institute to provide free music education to the underprivileged children of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The Music Education Charities want to provide these children and families with music training, competition opportunities, performance opportunities, access to instruments, and other instruction to help further their music education. They also help charities and businesses provide scholarships and lessons for the underprivileged children of Kansas City, so that they may be able to participate in other fine arts programs. The Kansas City Vocal Institute offers scholarships for those 18 years old or younger and for families enrolling more than one family member in the Kansas City Vocal Institute. Scholarships have been provided by the KCVI Music Eduation Charities and through donations and contributions by individuals including John Williams, David Cook, Marilyn Horne, Randy Newman, and many others.
