Daughter of Famed Engineer Produces Book and Rare Blueprints

(Free-Press-Release.com) July 6, 2010 -- SALLY-ANN FOWLER, the youngest daughter of the celebrated engineer, the late LEO FOWLER, founder of "The Elizabethan Village" in Western Australia, has released a book titled, “Sally-ann's Story & Her Legacy: Leo Fowler's Dream”

SHAKESPEARE is alive and well “down under.” This is the story of Leo Fowler's Dream, an Elizabethan Village nestled in the hills outside Perth in Western Australia. Built in the 1970's, no expense was spared building replicas of two of the most famous buildings in England: Shakespeare's birthplace and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage . Sally-ann tells the story of her life as Leo's youngest daughter, from early childhood up to the present day, and the amazing legacy he left behind.

“My father Leo built two full-sized, exact replicas of Shakespeare's Birthplace along with Anne Hathaway’s which were built in the 1970s. He flew to England and meticulously measured each home and created extraordinary copies of those measurements to BLUEPRINTS. I wish to share with the world how RARE these blueprints are,” says Sally-ann. She goes onto say, “They may be of great of interest to anyone in Britain, the USA or throughout the world who are interested in history or BRITISH ARCHITECTURE from the RENAISSANCE, the GOLDEN AGE, the ELIZABETHAN or the JACOBEAN eras. I hope to hear from British museums and historical societies who may be interested in these blueprints because of their unique value and contributions to the world. These Tudor buildings were built using the DOWLING technique, an amazing engineering feat that is stronger than using nails. Dowling uses big wooden pegs which are driven into heavy beams. Leo Fowler followed this exact technique as they did in TUDOR times. The blueprints are detailed as he wanted the challenge of making exact replicas of these amazing buildings in Britain. Sally-ann Fowler adds, “My father had permission to do this from The Shakespeare’s Birthplace Trust in Britain. At that time the late Dr. Levi Fox, Director of the Trust Fox, challenged my father’s ability to do such amazing copies of the original buildings he felt it could not be done.”

Sally-ann Fowler opened the new room named after her father. It has been named, “The Leo Fowler Function Centre” at the Elizabethan Pub in the “Elizabethan Village Western Australia” to honor its founder.

On October17, 2009, a ceremony attended by The Honorable Mayor of Armadale, Linton Reynolds, a Member of the Order of Australia, presented the Village with a solid brass plaque showing that the village is now a historical site in Australia. It states “The City Of Armadale Historic Site Elizabethan Village. Brought to reality by the vision and hard work of retired British engineer, Leo Fowler.” Anne Hathaway’s , Shakespeare’s Birthplace and the Cobweb Restaurant are accurate replicas of the original buildings in Stratford-On- Avon. The Elizabethan Village was awarded the1978 “Sir David Brand award” for tourism. When asked about seeing the plaque bearing her father’s name, Sally-ann Fowler said, “October 17, 2009 was a very proud day for me to see my father memory honored at last for his contribution of engineering and architecture in British history in Western Australia.”
