Winston-Salem, NC - Assistant Forsyth County District Attorney David Hall has announced that he's a candidate for the Forsyth County Superior Court Judge, District 21B. The seat is currently held by 32-year incumbent Judge Judson D. DeRamus, who recently announced that he will retire at the end of his current term.
Hall has been an assistant district attorney in Forsyth County since 1997. He is a 1990 graduate of Wake Forest University School of Law, is currently on the faculty of the law school and has coached the law school's National Trial Team. Prior to becoming an assistant district attorney Hall practiced civil litigation for six and a half years.
"I believe I have the background, training and experience to maintain the highest standards of fairness, judicial expertise and integrity that have been established by Judge DeRamus during his tenure as judge," says Hall.
As an assistant district attorney in Forsyth County, Hall has served as Chief Assistant District Attorney, Habitual Felon Supervisor, a liaison and trainer for SANE (Sexual Assault Nursing Examiner) and is a member of the county's newly formed Mental Health Court Program. Hall presently handles violent felonies, with an emphasis on homicide trials.
Hall also serves on the faculty for the National Advocacy Center in Columbia, South Carolina which is affiliated with the National District Attorney's Association and National Conference of District Attorneys.
"In deciding to seek this judicial seat now held by Judge DeRamus, I am very much aware of the high ethical standards he has established in this district," says Hall. "I am also very mindful that the courts are supported by, and exist, to serve the people."
David has been married for 25 years. His wife Cindy is a speech pathologist and assistive technology teacher with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. They have two daughters, Leah and Anna.
Hall grew up in Greensboro, N.C. and was the only child to two legally blind parents. He says that growing up under unusual circumstances has given him a perspective on life that he hopes to bring to the bench.
"I learned a lot from my parents," says Hall. "They were people of very little means and compromised physical ability, and I saw how they struggled to raise a family. I understand the hardships that often run below the surface, including those that eventually end up before the courts."
