In her attempts to positively impact the wedding industry, Carol and the WIPA team has proposed a change in the common vernacular used by wedding professionals. Instead of brides hiring a "day-of" coordinator, they should instead hire a "wedding director".

"There is no such thing as a “day of” person …. No bride (or party client) wants a coordinator to just show up on the day of the event and pretend to run the show," Carol says. "In fact, that will make the day more difficult, not easier. Wedding professionals in every discipline have commented on the difficulties of working with an uninformed coordinator who just “appears” on the wedding day."

As stated in the white paper published by WIPA, "The pre-wedding meetings, vendor confirmations, review of vendor contracts, timelines, planning, referrals, production schedules, venue logistics and walk through typically require a minimum of 25 + hours for any experienced planner. The day of the wedding will be an additional 10-15 hours. The planner will be on site early, directing set up and implementing the client’s vision. This allows the couple to be relaxed and to enjoy their day. "

Wedding coordinators need to have a thorough understanding of the couple and their vision in addition to knowledge of the vendors the couple has contracted. No coordinator can gain this knowledge on the day of the wedding and successfully run the show. "Wedding Director" is a title that better fits the situation for wedding professionals and engaged couples alike.
