Spirit-led Designs is proud to announce the opening of their Interactive Touch Books online bookstore, showcasing children's iPhone and iPad apps that include American Sign Language videos. While many app developers are creating their apps with the special needs community in mind, few are including features, like ASL videos, that can benefit the Deaf community. "I've been searching for apps that will meet the needs of my Deaf students. Most apps are teeming with auditory feedback, but not enough visual feedback. For the Deaf Child, this can be very frustrating. Why are there not more applications for Deaf children?" asks Jennifer-Lloyd Carney, a special education teacher. She goes on to say, "I've contacted several developers about the need for adding American Sign Language to their products as well as contacting people within the Deaf Community about creating apps. There has to be a way to incorporate American Sign Language into these apps along with more visual reinforcers to make them appealing and educational for ALL Deaf children. These kids are being left out of this technology."

Rosemary, owner of Spirit-led Designs, and her daughter, Joanne, who is deaf, do the ASL videos for their apps. Having a child, and several grandchildren with special needs, has given Rosemary the incentive to create apps that incorporate content to benefit the special needs community and deaf children in particular.
Spirit-led Designs is also a member of Moms With Apps, a community of family-friendly app developers and reviewers, and will be participating in the weekly Moms With Apps #appfriday promotional Facebook event on November 4, December 9, 2011 and January 6, 2012.
