Dealchecker.co.uk Reveals North South Divide in UK Short Break Market

Dealchecker.co.uk reveal that travel search patterns for summer UK breaks in 2011 showed a swing in favour of northern cities and destinations.

The Lake District has proved to be a huge hit with travellers this summer, Dealchecker’s research showing the region up by 77%. Next in line was the city of Leeds, up 35% year on year. London still holds the lion’s share of the market but has seen a slight drop in volume of travel searches.

Alice Marscotti-Wyatt, editor at www.dealchecker.co.uk said of the findings. “These figures reveal that travelers are keen to explore the country and shop around for a good value UK short break.

In Dealchecker’s weekly newsletter of ‘real deals’ we now find many of the northern based breaks add value by including dinner, wine, or theatre tickets as part of their package. Something welcomed by travelers in these tougher economic times.”

Favorite northern destination the Lake District ticks all the right boxes. Whilst the growth in popularity of Leeds can be attributed to its wealth of cultural facilities - theatres, opera house, art gallery and ballet companies, plus five miles of shopping streets.
