Deceased organ and tissue donors who gave so others could live are honored on a special “Donate Life Float” during the 2012 Tournament of Roses Parade®

DALLAS, TX, Dec. 22, 2011 -- Nancy Michaels is a single mother of three and entrepreneur from Concord, MA. After a painful divorce and falling ill with complete liver failure, she spent two months in a coma after having to receive an emergency liver transplant. Today Michaels thrives in her business and is active in the raising of her children all because of a young mother of two who died in an automobile accident after two days on a ventilator. Thanks to Erica Marie Stewart Mullins, who wanted her organs donated in her death, Nancy Michaels is able to live on. Krista Heidinger, from Lethbridge, AB, Canada, was also a young mother who died from massive damage caused by a pulmonary embolism four days after giving birth to her third child. Thanks to the eWomenNetwork Foundation, Erica Mullins and Krista Heidinger will each be featured and honored on the 2012 Donate Life Float in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena California, January 2nd. Nancy Michaels will join 27 other survivors who would not be alive today if not for the compassion and selflessness of those who donated their body tissue and organ’s so others could live as a result of their death.

These 27 donation benefactors, who will be riding the Donate Life float, bring a deeply moving and special meaning to the theme of the Donate Life Float of “…One More Day”.

This is such an important message to get out and we want to help raise awareness for how we all can contribute and donate our organs so that others may live though us when our lives come to an end,” says Sandra Yancey, Founder and Executive Director, eWomenNetwork Foundation.

The eWomenNetwork Foundation presented Donate Life with their International Femtor award for Humanitarian Organization of the Year, during their International Conference in Dallas, July 15, 2011. Thousands of business women from all over North America were educated and impacted that day by the work of Donate Life during that Conference. Nancy Michaels personally shared her story that day and was a visible reminder that inspired others to save and heal lives by becoming registered organ, eye, and tissue donors.

The 2012 Donate Life Rose Parade float will feature six enormous floral timepieces that will be adorned with 72 memorial "floragraphs" (floral portraits) of deceased donors whose gifts gave life and time to so many. There will be a Rose Dedication garden on the float, each rose bearing a personal message of love and remembrance to those who have donated organs and thanks from those who are benefactors.

Thanks to the courageous generosity of tissue donors and their families, benefactors, like Nancy Michaels, are able to take back life and have one more day.
