This article will present you options how to recover deleted Mac files.
What happens when files are deleted?
When files are deleted in your PC, they are not really gone. They are simply removed from the areas user can access. It is just like making this file inaccessible anymore to users. Even though the file is not visible or accessible in the folder it doesn’t mean the file is totally lost. Its contents are still intact 100%. But it would not stay like this forever.
Deleted files go directly to the Trash. If the file is still in the trash, it is still very easy to recover. Look for your deleted file in your Trash. Use the Restore feature to recover your file by putting it back to its original location.
Shift-Deleted Files
Using Shift-Delete would delete your file and bypass your Trash. It is the same as deleting your files in your trash. Deleting a file using this makes your file still recoverable. The file after being shift-deleted still is not deleted at all. Your hard drive would just re-use the space of this file for other files. As long as your hard drive did not re-use its space your files can certainly be still recoverable. There is software that can be used to recover these kinds of files.
Recovering Deleted Files
Certainly there are tools which can recover these lost files. However, these tools aren’t available in Mac. So it is certainly needed to have third party software. Recovery of these files is not guaranteed. There are many factors that can make recovery of files a failure.
Undelete Software knows and understand how your OS work. This program would detect the space that was occupied by that certain deleted file. Because of the chance that this space might have been re-used by some other files, there is no sure guarantee that it can be recovered. But as long as it is not re-used, recovery would be 100% success.
Saving Recovered Data
Once the files have been recovered using any Undelete Tools, keep in mind that you must not save it to the very same disk you have recovered from. You can use an external hard drive or shared networks or even a USB.
