Democrat Time to Walk the Talk
Democrat Time to Walk the Talk
There has been enough talk about the problems confronting the great State of Texas. Democrat Felix Alvarado is prepared to start working on reasonable solutions to these well-discussed problems.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) February 17, 2010 --
The US Bureau of Labor & Statistics has projected that today’s workers will have seven to ten different careers during their lifetime. They have also projected that as many as six of those jobs do not exist today. Although today’s jobs must be a high priority, it is not enough to provide jobs for today. Our next Governor must have the vision to plan for an ever-changing future through the end of the 21st Century and beyond.
Felix Alvarado has that vision! Felix Alvarado offers solutions!
We must establish Regional Councils around the state to look strategically into the future and prepare us accordingly. These Regional Councils should set the agenda for community colleges in their region to provide training for people out of work, those currently under employed and for new workers, so that they can be ready for jobs as they become available.
Felix Alvarado is prepared with real solutions for real problems.
Other candidates for Texas Governor seem to be willing to give lip service to crime in our neighborhoods, but now is not the time for talk, but rather for reasonable solutions. Texas needs to provide funding for local law enforcement and the DPS to establish permanent Gang Prevention units in their jurisdictions, but that is still not enough. Local law enforcement and the DPS need to have a coordinated reporting system so that the entire resources of Texas can be utilized to support an increasingly out of control gang problem in our cities and towns.
Crime in Texas literally keeps many Texans prisoners in their homes. They put up walls of protection such as alarm systems, keep shades pulled down, and install lights with motion detectors and much more. This is still not enough. Citizens need to be taught how to implement neighborhood watch programs so law enforcement can be informed of the beginnings of gang activity and stop it before it can take hold.
Crime is a constantly worrisome problem throughout Texas. In many places it us already out of hand. One major cause of growing crime activity is drug cartels sending drugs and drug dealers illegally through our borders. To bring a halt to the causes of Gang and Drug crime we must build on a base of a workable system of immigration control so we know who is crossing our borders.
While immigration is under the authority of the federal government, locally we are charged with the burden of law enforcement. When gang members are arrested, those that are illegal must be delivered directly to INS or Border Patrol for disposition as illegal aliens. They should not clog the already over burdened criminal justice system in Texas.
Candidates for Texas Governor have echoed the problems with the Texas educational system. If we fail to meaningfully educate our children we also need to plan to build many more prisons.
Most of the discussion about the poor quality of many of our schools has centered on pointing fingers and passing the buck and little talk or effort has gone to finding ways to meaningfully educate our children to allow them to become successful contributors in Texas. Every discussion on this topic must begin and end with the question “How does this affect our children?”
Nearly 70% of high school graduates in Texas (those who earned the necessary credits and have passed all TAKS tests) are not prepared for college. This overwhelming percent of students either do not go to college, or if they do go, they are required to take remedial courses. This unnecessary expense can increase the cost of a college education by as much as 25%.
Our students are not being taught how to learn or how to think creatively. Instead, they are being taught how to pass a series of tests, none of which have been shown to be meaningful indicators of student success.
Texans deserve better than mediocre leadership. Texans deserve a leader who is prepared with real solutions for real problems.
