Las Vegas dental school offers new series of sleep apnea courses.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) June 28, 2010 -- When you hear the phrase, “Sleep Apnea”, you don’t typically think of dentists, but a Las Vegas dental school hopes to change that. The Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies, commonly known as LVI Global (http://www.lviglobal.com), has launched a new series of courses aimed at educating dentists on how to recognize the symptoms of Sleep Apnea and, working with a sleep physician, diagnose and treat the disease.

The first course happened last week and was a foundational class that taught dentists about the potentially deadly effects that Sleep Apnea can have on the body, and why a dentist can act as the first line of defense in identifying potential Sleep Apnea sufferers called “apneics”.

“People with Sleep Apnea often don’t know that they have it. By simply asking some questions that their primary doctor might not know to ask, we can help people be aware of the problem and start them on the road to treatment,” says Corpus Christi Sleep Apnea dentist, Dr. Don Lowrance.

Dr. Brian Allman is the instructor for the course. He is a dentist practicing in Reno, Nevada. His practice focuses on TMJ therapy and sleep apnea treatment. He has been practicing for 25 years and is a diplomate of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.

“I have been going to LVI for years, and when I found out that they were offering a series on Sleep Apnea, I signed up right away,” said Lowrance, “I’ve been treating Sleep Apnea for quite some time, but the field is constantly changing, and there’s always something new to learn.”

The subsequent courses will be more detailed in how to read the data supplied by sleep centers that diagnose patients with Sleep Apnea, and how to properly fit patients with oral appliances for Sleep Apnea treatment.

Dentists who complete the course series not only obtain CE credits, but will become credentialed diplomats in dental sleep medicine. LVI Global is a Continuing Education Recognition Program provider as recognized by the American Dental Association.
