Denver, Colorado, January 25, 2011 - Mile High Denver Auto Repair today released an announcement to inform its customers and other area automobiles owners of some of the important items to keep in mind when selecting replacement tires for a car. Items on the list include:
1. Avoid Mixing Tire Types. An automobile’s tires are integral to its engineering and therefore also to its performance. There are several variables in tires including the size, tread patterns, construction, and stage of wear that may affect vehicle handling and stability. In most instances drivers are advised not to mix tires types on a vehicle. For 4x4 and AWD drive vehicles the need to avoid mixing tires is even more important. Guidelines for these classes of vehicles include not mixing radial and non-radial tires, ensuring matching tire size and tread patterns, and replacing all 4 tires if any need to be replaced.
2. Check Tire Specifications. Modern tires are manufactured with speed ratings and other specifications that determine their suitability for a particular vehicle and expected driving conditions. Speed ratings on replacement tires should match or exceed ratings of the original tires. In general consider the original tires as a minimum requirement for replacement tires. A car’s owner manual can also be helpful to determine the recommended requirements for replacement tires.
3. After Purchase Tire Care. Tires are an investment and caring for tires post-purchase will help ensure they perform as designed and provide the longest possible life. Tires should be balanced at the time of purchase and balanced again with each tire rotation if needed. Rotation schedules are roughly 5000 to 8000 miles depending on the vehicle and tires. Alignment also must be maintained to promote even wear of the tires over their lifetime.
Denver area automobile owners and others are encouraged to contact Mile High Denver Auto Repair to schedule an appointment for tire replacement, auto service and repair requirements.
