DHS Fire Prevention and Safety Grants Program Awareness

(Free-Press-Release.com) October 6, 2009 -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awards grants to the fire departments every year. This is done to enhance their ability to protect the public and fire service personnel from fire and related hazards. There are three kinds of grants – the AFG (Assistance to Firefighters Grant), the FP&S (Fire Prevention and Safety) grant, and the SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) grant.

The FP&S is a part of the AFG grant. AFG has worked since 2001 to provide firefighters with equipment that are critical to their job, such as protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources. FP&S grants focus primarily on high-risk populations and attempt to bring down the incidences of death and injury. Some of the projects supported by the FP&S are fire prevention and public safety education campaigns, juvenile fire setter interventions, media campaigns, and arson prevention and awareness programs.

Applications for these grants must be sent in by October 23, 2009, at 5:00 p.m. (EDT). Organizations that are qualified to apply under the research activity should consult the Program Guidance for further information on priorities and areas of emphasis.
