Gardiner coach Matt Dineen said he will shorten his bench in the coming weeks as his team pushes for a playoff berth. Dineen has spent a good part of the season -- longer than he wanted to -- trying to find the right combinations. He's already broken up the top line, switching Klinton Peckham and Peter Caradonna.
With the Tigers fighting for the fifth and final Eastern B playoff spot, Dineen acknowledged they will primarily be a two-line team for the foreseeable future. A third line will be rotated into the mix but will not see as much ice time as the top two.
"We gave the guys a pen and told them to write their own script," Dineen said. "We have to bear down now. We have to shorten the bench."
The Tigers also feature eight defensemen, but only four or five will see the bulk of ice time from here on out. Klayton Peckham, Bobby Johnson, Forrest Chadwick and Jordan Caradonna are the team's top defensemen.
