WHY: Current Common Threads funding has allowed for four Miami-Dade County

schools to be a part of the program. Since the program is so successful in offering kids in low socio-economic areas access to nutritional and cooking education, Team F.O.U.R from The Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Miami Group and the five participating restaurants are raising funds in order to add a fifth school to the program. “I am so happy to have such amazing restaurants participating and supporting a cause that is so dear to me,” says Common Threads South Florida Chef and Founder Michelle Bernstein.

5 for 5

Fundraising efforts for Common Threads will conclude with a special event on Saturday, April 9 at Jungle Island called Kids Eat Miami (KEM). KEM involves local restaurateurs and chefs who are focused on healthy eating and offer healthy fare. Tickets are $25 each and will grant visitors full access to the park and Kids Eat Miami. Tickets purchased through Leadership Miami will be $10 off the Jungle Island adult ticket price. For more information and to purchase tickets to this event, please visit www.KidsEatMiami.com

About Common Threads: We teach low-income children to cook wholesome and affordable meals with the belief that through our hands-on cooking classes we can help prevent childhood obesity and reverse the trend of generations of non-cookers, while celebrating cultural differences and the things people all over the world have in common. Common Threads began out of our love of family and good food, two basic ingredients that link all people of this world together. Children who participate in the program arrive at the educational kitchens and embark on a world adventure as they prepare nutritious meals rooted in diverse cultural heritages. For more information on Common Threads, please visit www.commonthreads.org or contact Mimi Chacin, Miami Program Coordinator at mimi@commonthreads.org or call (786) 238- 0963.
