Discovering Portugal –Rockwell Art Galleries is pleased to welcome back the artistic collaboration of Gayle Gleckler and Tony Woolner in a new dual exhibit of special memories from Portugal featuring paintings and Monoprints. In this show, which is their third collaboration, Gayle and Tony take inspiration from a romantically charged road trip through Portugal - where Tony proposed! Gayle's acrylic paintings and Tony's monoprints are based on their favorite photographic images from Portugal where many castles, walled in towns, fields, and harbors became their muse. They courageously navigated the country in a beat up stick shift using inherent driving abilities and skillful intuition to get to where they wanted to be.
They precariously maneuvered their way through ancient history and artifacts visiting Sintra, Obidos, Marvao, Aveiro, Evora, Santiago, Sentebal, and Cascais. Charmed from the moment they entered Sintra, were they stayed in the oldest inn in Europe, Lawrence Inn, established in 1764. They felt the excitement immediately knowing anyone would be visually inspired...especially artists. From there they followed the Pousado Trail which was lined with castles and palaces that were renovated into modern beautiful hotels and stayed in a two century old Convent.
“The light and color splashed all around us and danced everywhere. The bright Portugal sun cast graphic shadows artists only dream of. From the swan-necked moliceiros (kelp boats) that still glide through ancient canals to the grandest of palaces we marveled. It is our absolute pleasure to present our Portugal experience on canvas and monoprints, and share with you our total joy at discovering this amazing country.”
